Public Policy February Committee meeting
Public Policy February Committee meeting
Monday, February 2, 2026 (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM) (EST)
Description
Special guest this month is Ed Book. Ed is the District 2 Commissioner for City of Gainesville. Before entering elected office, Book had a long career in law enforcement spanning more than 40 years. He spent over 26 years with the Gainesville Police Department, retiring at the rank of captain and district commander, and later served as Chief of Police and Emergency Manager at Santa Fe College, where he was also an adjunct instructor teaching public safety recruits. Active in community service throughout North Central Florida, he has been involved with organizations such as Keep Alachua County Beautiful, Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way, and Rotary International. Commissioner Book engages actively in housing policy debates in Gainesville, often prioritizing neighborhood concerns and careful assessment of policy tools while supporting certain structural changes that broaden housing options. We are looking forward to his discussion on the city's updates on housing issues.
Public Policy identifies local issues affecting, or potentially affecting, the real estate industry and/or private property rights and acts by becoming involved in those issues and ultimately makes recommendations to the GACAR Board of Directors. The committee disseminates information on local, state, and national issues to the membership, and forges relationships with elected officials. First Monday of each month at 10 am. Chair is Brent Riley - briley@mmparrish.com - 352-213-3333 and Vice Chair is Matt Mitchell - 352-283-5123 matthew@poweredbyflourish.com
